We decided to take that part serious, so the idea was to raise money in order to donate it to an organisation of our choice. We heard a lot about ‚fashion revolution’ but what was it all about?
Fashion Revolution was founded when in 2013 the Rana Plaza building in Bangladesh collapsed. During that disaster 1138 people died and another 2500 people were injured which caused to be the fourth largest industrial disaster in history. So the organization believed in standing up and demanding change for all the disadvantaged and people from all the world came together to use the power of fashion to change the world. Only some of the reasons why they thought it was time for a change is because of these facts:
Fashion revolution is a movement from people from all over the world who work in fashion or are just committed to help to make the fashion industry work.
Vision: We believe in a fashion industry that values people, the environment, creativity and profit in equal measure.
Mission: We want to unite people and organisations to work together towards radically changing the way our clothes are sourced, produced and consumed, so that our clothing is made in a safe, clean and fair way. We believe that collaborating across the whole value chain – from farmer to consumer – is the only way to transform the industry. Our mission is to bring everyone together to make that happen.
Fashion revolution runs all year long to create a more ethical and sustainable future for fashion. It was funded by income from foundations, governments’ grants, commercial organisations and donations from individuals. The organisation follows strict and transparent guidelines about the funds that they receive. It is a collaborative and inclusive approach where it is clear that others are genuinely working towards a fairer, safer, cleaner and more transparent clothing industry with positive outcomes for both people and planet. Fashion revolution is currently funded by the C&A foundation which does not mean that they treat C&A any different from the other 99 brands that they analysed. We as team decided to donate our earnings to fashion revolution because they are helping in many countries, with many projects in many ways. They are not focusing on a general issue but rather on the whole negatives in the fashion industry and one might say there are a bunch of issues. We believe that it’s time for a change.
It’s time for a fashion revolution.
